Speaker: Tammi Mills, University of Lethbridge, PhD Candidate

Location: PE264, 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sports & Wellness building, University of Lethbridge or via Zoom: https://uleth.zoom.us/j/98230403017

Tammi Mills is a Ph.D. student at the University of Lethbridge. Her research involves using a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System
(RPAS), or drone, to detect archaeological features using thermal imaging. Using a site in Southern Alberta, optimal flying heights and the ideal time-of-day for thermal data collection was studied.

This presentation builds on her research from last year to develop and refine aerial survey techniques to enhance survey coverage areas, and potentially to identify previously unknown archaeological sites. Tammi will be presenting preliminary
results utilizing thermal imaging from her 2023 field season. Utilizing the RPAS, Tammi was able to produce high quality thermal orthomosaics, and digital surface models (DSMs) that assisted in the identification of archaeological features.
