Job Description:  We are hiring Assistant Archaeologists for the upcoming season, beginning with our Spring Kickoff in April and usually running into November depending on the weather. The Assistant Archaeologist participates in AIAs/HRIAs in the field, travelling to and from project areas, conducting pedestrian traverse and subsurface testing as required. Experience is preferred but not necessary; training will be provided.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Archaeology (or related field)
  • Class 5 Drivers License
  • Ability to travel to locations for extended periods
  • Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather conditions and diverse/rugged terrain
  • Ability to perform manual labour, including hiking for extended distances (average 8 to 10 km per day), and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative
  • Ability to work cooperatively, support and coach co-workers in a positive team environment and share work expertise and knowledge

Assets:

  • Strong oral and written communicator
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Prior related experience with Argos/ATVs
  • Prior related experience making management recommendations for high potential areas and previously recorded or unrecorded archaeological sites
  • Prior related experience with ArcGIS
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Effective time management skills and ability to work steadily under pressure
  • A positive attitude and a belief in teamwork
  • Ability to work without close supervision
