Taiga Heritage is a privately owned cultural resource management company, operating out of Grande Prairie, Alberta. Since 2013, Taiga has been engaged in numerous archaeological projects for First Nations and Inuit, private sector industries and governmental agencies in western Canada. Projects have included consultation with a variety of industries to ensure legislation compliance, research projects with First Nations and educational outreach programs in northern Alberta and Northwest Territories.

Job Title: Archaeological Field Technician

Job Description:

• an interest and knowledge of history and archaeology.

• apply archaeological theory and methods in various field investigations to reconstruct the past

• conduct pedestrian and arial surveys of the landscape using a variety of technology

• use scientific techniques to excavate archaeological sites and conduct sub-surface inspections

• recognition and proper collection of archaeological artifacts and material

• find and assess archaeological sites including mapping and recording field notes

• engagement with community members, First Nations, and other stakeholders

• participate in Taiga’s safety program.

Skills and Qualifications:

• an interest and knowledge of history.

• knowledge of sociology and anthropology for understanding society and culture

• to be thorough and pay attention to detail

• persistence and determination

• excellent verbal communication and analytical thinking skills

• must be able to conduct field work in remote locations and be comfortable in the field

• candidates should be able to perform physically demanding tasks in various environments

• must have valid driver’s license.
